چکیده
A new spirurid nematode, Protospirura canariensis n. sp., a parasite of the black rat Rattus rattus Linnaeus, 1758 (Rodentia: Muridae), in El Hierro Island (Canary Archipelago, Spain), was described by means light (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The most discriminating characteristics between species remaining genus were observed to be following: (a) number tooth-like outgrowths sub-median lateral lobes pseudolabia, both males females (2 4, respectively); (b) size right left spicules (643–715 µm 309–412 µm, (c) numbers arrangements cloacal papillae males. has total 17 (4 large pedunculated pairs precloacal papillae, an unpaired papilla 4 postcloacal papillae). arrangement are as follows: first pair large, placed near posterior edge cloaca; three grouped located tip. In latter group, pedunculated. parasitized hosts their geographical distributions also useful criteria distinguishing P. sp. from Protospirura. addition, cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (cox1) sequence obtained compared with available data related species.

Notocotylus loeiensis n. sp. (Trematoda: Notocotylidae) from Rattus losea (Rodentia: Muridae) in Thailand
Notocotylus loeiensis n. sp. (Trematoda: Notocotylidae) is described from the cecum of the lesser rice field rat (Rattus losea), from Loei Province in Thailand with a prevalence of 9.1% (eight of 88 rats infected). The new species differs from previously described Notocotylus species mainly by the extreme prebifurcal position of the genital pore and the number of ventral papillae. This is the f...
متن کاملEradication of black rats Rattus rattus from Anacapa Island
Removing invasive rats from islands is a powerful conservation tool, and practitioners are now targeting larger islands for rat eradication. As they do so, they face the challenge of mitigating for potential non-target impacts on native biodiversity that may be susceptible to rodenticides. We report on the eradication of black rats Rattus rattus from Anacapa Island, California, in 2001–2002, wh...
متن کاملfirst report of vermamoeba vermiformis in the island of el hierro, canary islands, spain
background: free-living amoebae (fla) are group of protozoa distributed worldwide in many habitats mainly water and soil related sources. some members of fla are able to act as opportunistic pathogens and are environmental carriers of other pathogenic agents such as bacteria and viruses. vermamoeba vermiformis is a highly abundant fla species in water bodies and has recently gained environmenta...

– Geographic variation in skulls of the Polynesian rat, Rattus exulans (Peale, 1848) (Mammalia: Rodentia: Muridae) was examined based on 18 morphometric characters of 374 specimens collected from the Southeast and East Asia including the continent north of the Isthmus of Kra, the Malay Peninsula, Borneo, Sumatera, Jawa, Philippines, Sulawesi, Flores, Maluku, Taiwan, Ryukyus, New Guinea, and the...
متن کاملGenetic Differentiation among Karyotypic Forms of the Black Rat, RATTUS RATTUS.
The black rat, Rattus rattus, consists of five karyotypic forms-2n = 42 (high C-banding); 2n = 42 (low C-banding); 2n = 40; 2n = 38; 2n = 42 Mauritius. Here, we use isozyme electrophoresis and microcomplement fixation to elucidate the genetic distance and phylogenetic relationship among each of the various karyotypic forms of R. rattus and R. norvegicus . The results show that (1) the 2n = 42 M...
